The Pastoral Excellence Network, a newly formed initiative of the Center for Pastoral Excellence (PEN), opened its doors on January 2, 2013. With offices at Andover Newton Theological School in Newton, MA, PEN will help coordinate and expand upon the many thriving Sustaining Pastoral Excellence (SPE) programs and Transition into Ministry (TiM) programs which have been developed over the past 10 years with the support of the Lilly Endowment Inc.

Our mandate is to create leadership schools to share key TiM and SPE insights and work with organizations to launch new programs; to develop strategies and host regional gatherings to support current TiM and SPE grantees by helping them discern their next  steps and connecting them with others to explore common issues and questions; to convene church leaders from across the country for intentional and exploratory conversations on leading edge issues and questions related to TiM and SPE; and to provide modest strategic development grants to assist church organizations in designing new efforts and in finding new ways to collaborate.

The Pastoral Excellence Network is directed by the Rev. Chris Braudaway-Bauman, who coordinated the Transition into Ministry program at the Wellesley Congregational Church since its inception and served on the leadership team of the Pastoral Excellence Program of the Massachusetts Conference, UCC from its beginnings 10 years ago.

Joining Chris as administrator is Willie Sordillo, who comes to this position from the Massachusetts Conference, UCC, where he served as Administrative Assistant to the Minister and President for 11 years.
